The old saying “birds of a feather, flock together” has a lot of truth to it. A person will naturally want to hang out with someone that shares their same interest, ideas and hobbies. Now, some people might view this as being selective or “clicky” but there is something comforting about being around someone who you have a lot in common with. You can’t choose your family, but you can choose who you associate it. Choosing positive people with good intentions in life is extremely important. These characteristics will consciously and subconsciously rub off on you eventually.
It can be as simple as a friend wanting to eat healthy and choosing to find a healthy restaurant instead of going to a fast food joint. Naturally, you will want to join them either way. The buddy system and weight loss is very effective. The accountability and supporting each other is essential for a true lifestyle transition. If you eat poorly one day, who is going to hold you accountable on your own? No one. But if you check in with a friend, and they are fully immersed in the diet as well, they should be able to talk to you about your meal choices.
Friends who want to practice in regular exercise will also give you that extra push to work out. We like hanging out with our friends in general, why not do it while losing weight? You get to burn calories and socialize all at the same time. And if you don’t have a friend who wants to change their lifestyle with you? Join a gym and find that person! A gym is a great way to network and meet new people.
