Taekwondo Classes in Las Vegas @Ageless Martial Arts
So there are many differences in Karate and Taekwondo that are very similar in movement and in style. Sensei Lorenzo teaches Karate classes in Las Vegas but incorporates some Taekwondo in Las Vegas classes for kids. Here’s a quote from Sensei Lorenzo describing how he has adapted his curriculum to add some important key concepts in kicking and different drills that help improve kicks through Martial arts in Las Vegas.
” Hey Sensei Lorenzo here,
So I get a lot of questions asking how our curriculum has some taekwondo influences. The truth is I was trained in very traditional Shotokan Karate in Las Vegas, so a lot of the drills and exercises and very different in the way we fight. I did taekwondo for about a year with Master Terry Black Burn at TDT ( Two Dragons taekwondo ). And I love thier classes. They actually made me realize how much taekwondo concepts can be quite effective when it comes to certain kicking drills and kicking combination, also increasing flexibility, and finally have better kicks in general. Taekwondo classes in LAs Vegas have really help me get it down to a science. Here some of the concepts we took from taekwondo and incorporated into our curriculum.
- Screeching and flexibility training is huge for kicking performance
- Spinning Kicks
- Jumping Kicks
- Cut Kicks
- Triple Round house kicks
- Jumping Spinning Kicks
- Spinning Hook Kick follow through ( Karate Spinning hook kick tends to be a wrap around not follow through)
- Twist hip kick extending the hip during attack
- Heel attacks
- Belt Stretching’s with belts
- Double round hose kicks
- Scorpion Kick
- Various Hook Kicks
Here’s an example of some of the kicks we do at Ageless Martial Arts
Of course there are many concepts and theories I have added to these types of kicking drills and these are just mostly spread through our Shotokan Karate Belts rank order and how I have spread it out through adding some taekwondo concepts. Taekwondo is very subjective to Master to Master and again I am no expert in Taekwondo nor do I claim to be, these are just concepts I took and have seen throughout my years in the martial arts so I can incorporate in our Karate schools in Las Vegas. Having these type of drills and moves in our classes help our students have some great kicks and create a very diverse style in our martial arts system.
We don’t necessarily put Poomsae (taekwondo forms) into the classes but we do put some of the kicking techniques that can be beneficial. I honestly think a lot of martial arts schools in Las Vegas. As a martial arts intructor however, I really try to add many ideas and things I’ve learned that revolve around Shotokan Karate.”

Taekwondo has so many types of kicks and different types of concepts. It actually comes from a Korean style called “Taekyyon” which is one of the original martial arts that originated out of Korea. Legend has it that martial artist would kick off of horses in order to kick their enemies off of their saddles and they actually fought this way.
There is so much history that Korea has to over both in its culture and its martial arts. Also how Gichin Funakoshi influenced so many martial arts styles around the world.
