We can’t say for sure how it happened, but there are several misconceptions about kids karate. Perhaps it goes back to the early days of Power Rangers, when kids, souped-up on 90s sugary snacks and e numbers, were spin kicking on the playground. But we’re here to set the record straight. When taught at a responsible kids karate school, karate has several very big advantages for its practitioners. At Ageless Martial Arts Las Vegas, we have testimonials from parents telling us that they’ve witnessed tremendous improvements in their kids since starting at our school.
Without further ado, let’s get debunking.
Myth #1 It’s not for kids with behavioral problems
The idea behind this myth is that kids with behavioral problems do not have the control necessary to practice karate safely. We disagree. In fact, we encourage parents with children with behavioral problems to sign their kids up.
Karate is an opportunity for kids to channel their energy constructively. They also learn key values of control and respect, which we teach our children to apply in their lives beyond the dojo.
Myth #2 It encourages combative behaviors
For many of the same reasons we mentioned in Myth #1, karate does not encourage combative behaviors.
Any responsible karate school worth its salt takes extra care to instill in their students the wider principles of karate. In our classes, we require all students to show respect and responsibility with their newfound knowledge and skills. They are taught that the only circumstances in which they can apply karate outside of our classes are when they need to protect themselves and others around them who are under direct threat.
Myth #3 Kids have to be physically fit to enjoy it
There are no pre-requirements with regards to your child’s fitness or ability before signing up. Everyone is on a journey, and we applaud and celebrate children’s progress no matter where they’ve started.
If your child has had a bad experience with bullying or has experienced disrespect in other fitness programs, we’re here to help them build up their confidence and enter a community of children who are taught to respect everyone no matter where they are on their journey.
Myth #4 It’s not for girls
Martial arts may still be male-dominated, but we’re determined to be part of the solution! The girls in our classes know that they are just as worthy and capable as the boys in our classes. The beauty of karate is the fact that unlike other sports, there is no gender segregation.
We’re here to help your child develop into socially responsible people. No matter their backstory, no matter their circumstances, we’re here to welcome them. You can enroll your child to our Las Vegas kids karate school on our website. We look forward to meeting you.
My daughter has been doing karate training since she was 4 years old with Ageless Martial Arts. Her skills and confidence level improved significantly. She now spars with bigger kids.
Sensei Lorenzo is a great teacher, and he is very dedicated and loves what he does. He is a 4th degree black belt and very much hands-on when he comes to training.
He trained a lot of students who went as far as to become Team USA. We met some of his students who now compete in the Olympics.

My kids have learned and grown so much after starting karate here. The senseis are all amazing. My kids self confidence has grown so much. They are coachable and can handle correction and feedback in direct ways without getting upset, a life skill everyone needs to learn. They have grown in respwcting others and most importantly they know how to protect themselves. We love our karate community at Ageless.

My kids have loved learning from Sensei Lorenzo. He is a great teacher and has a lot of experience. As I have observed his classes I can tell that he cares a lot about each of his students and wants them to succeed. I’m so glad I sign my kids up!
