How does ageless karate differ from other martial arts schools in Las Vegas? It’s our focus on families. We don’t just see karate as a great means of physical activity and exercise, it’s a holistic practice that encompasses many skills and values that are important for family harmony and children’s success.
Studies have shown that there is a correlation between regularly practicing martial arts and key family values such as respect and moral development. But we don’t need a study to prove this, it’s something we’ve always known and valued about karate.
Here’s how karate improves family relationships and school grades
Respect
There is a strong culture of respect in martial arts. The hierarchy between instructor and student is clearly delineated. Kids reinforce the importance of respect in the dojo, and at Ageless Karate we make a point of making sure they carry that same respect for authority back home and to their classroom, which may help explain why kids to practice karate get better grades.
Respect between training partners is something we also regularly teach in karate. Bowing is an important part of the martial arts tradition. It shows humility and respect for your training partner regardless of their comparative skill or experience.
Moral development
A recent study found that martial arts are a great means of developing kids’ moral approach to self and others. However, the study also stressed that “not all contemporary martial arts clubs take moral cultivation as important, which diminishes their potential.”
We are proud to say that moral development is, and always has been a cornerstone of our approach at Ageless Karate.
In the wider context of martial arts, real mastery doesn’t just come from being able to spar proficiently and demonstrate precise techniques. Masters (senseis) must also conduct themselves with maturity and virtuous conduct. Our students look up to us, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Martial arts also come with strict codes and rules of conduct. Kids respond very well to rules within the dojo because there is a very clear and direct link between their adherence to this conduct and their safety and the safety of their fellow trainees. If they step out of line, it is a clear signal of disrespect to those around them. Kids quickly learn that rules are put in place to protect themselves and others. This important life lesson is one they take with them and can apply to their home and school life.
The importance of training
Finally, through karate kids learn the importance of regular practice and training and the direct correlation between effort and progress.
Karate serves to demonstrate that if you want to improve, you need to dedicate yourself to practice, be that training or studying.
The truth is that we aren’t at all surprised to discover that kids that practice karate regularly get better grades. It makes perfect sense to us. Whatsmore, we’ve had testimonials from parents who tell us about their kids’ general improvement. When it comes to family, karate is a great way to shore up your relationships, and we’re honored to help the families that attend our Las Vegas karate school.
If you’d like to instill your kids with these important life lessons, enroll your kid in our Summer Camp in Las Vegas. Through fun activities and games, each week we focus on one of the core life skills we regularly teach the children that attend our school. We look forward to welcoming your child
